6 Questions You Should Ask Before Choosing a Vet in Llantrisant

< Back to News

1. Will I get to know who cares for my pet?

It’s always reassuring to see a familiar face. One who remembers you and your pet, and the reasons you’ve been in before. That’s why at Live Well Vets we’ll always try to make sure you can see the same vet or nurse you’ve seen before so we can build up a relationship and get to know you all.

We’re different, we believe in a strong family-based culture and our family includes our team and customers. Your fur babies are our babies and will be given treats and cuddles, and we won’t rush things because we all genuinely love catching up with people and pets and being able to offer continuity of care for life. Our name says it all Live Well Vets, we want your pets to live well and we feel privileged that you allow us to help care for them.

2. What makes us different?

We wanted our customers and their pets to feel relaxed, welcomed and at home when coming into the practice. We believe vets shouldn’t only be a place for when your pets are unwell but a place they enjoy coming to.

One of our main features in reception will be a ‘Treat Bar’ for our furry friends – grab a handful when visiting or when passing.

For our human customers, we’ll have coffee at the ready or grab a cold drink from our fridge in reception – a home from home.

Being part of our club means we get to create moments with you and share some special occasions, there will be plenty of things over the year to bring us together to create moments such as coffee and doughnut mornings or group dog walks.

Live Well Vets is as much our practice as it is yours and we can’t wait to say hello…

3. Is it a cat-friendly practice?

Going to the vet can be an unnerving experience for your cat, especially if there are dogs and other scary animals in the same place. To help your cat find it all a bit less intimidating, we have taken steps to make the environment a lot more relaxing.

We will have cat box’s on the walls so you can elevate your cats off the floor, and also a separate cat ward for any stays, which is far away from the normal day-to-day noises and the dog ward where we do all we can to keep them calm.

Our cat areas use plug-in facial pheromones, so they feel safe and relaxed, and our kennels are spacious so that there are plenty of places to relax or hide.

4. Is it easy to park?

Yes, and it’s FREE for our customers. Our practice has parking located right outside, which means you won’t need to waste any time finding somewhere to leave your car, and if using a carrier, you won’t have far to take your pet too.

Simply add your registration plate to our parking portal when you arrive for stress-free parking.

5. Is this the right practice for my nervous pet?

Some pets can be very anxious about visiting the vets, either because they’re naturally wary of new situations or because they associate it with something uncomfortable or unpleasant. We recognise that dealing with an anxious pet is as stressful for owners as it is for the animal going through it.

At Live Well Vets, we’re trying to change that, we have a special interest in dog and cat behaviour and how we can help them feel more relaxed.

We aim to develop a healthy and trusting relationship with your pet, not frighten them and make them dread the next trip. Examining a nervous animal is also tricky, so it enables us to take much better care of them if they’re happy.

Our practice has separate cat and dog wards. Any hospitalised cats and dogs will always be kept away from one another. If your pet doesn’t like entering the practice, you’re free to wait outside in the car park before your consultation – we can call you when the vet is ready. Our treat bar is there to help actively encourage dog owners to pop in whenever they’re passing so your pooch can have a cuddle and a treat before continuing their day. This helps send positive messages to them that good things happen here too!

Kelly our head nurse has a specific interest and qualification around dog and cat behaviour, we’ll run regular formalisation sessions for pets who find the vet experience stressful.

6. Is this practice going to make my life easier?

Life is busier than ever, and keeping up with essential preventative healthcare basics can easily slip through the net.

Our Pet Health Plan will help you with that.

We will make sure that your pet is protected all year round from fleas, mites, worms and ticks (products can be posted out at no additional cost or collected from the surgery), all routine vaccinations are included, and you will benefit from discounts on key services including dental treatments.

We’ll remind you when treatments are due and make sure we keep on top of your pet’s wellbeing. This is not only good for your pet’s health and happiness but also good for your pocket as we can often tackle any problems before they become expensive.

More importantly, we are here to help support you and your pet’s well-being for now and in the future.
